Softball
As part of our commitment to help softball players improve their skills and compete with their peers, Niwot Youth Sports (NYS) has organized a number of free softball clinics. The clinics are open to all players, both new and experienced, and will be run by professional instructors and/or local high school coaches (and some of their players). You do not have to sign up to participate in the clinics, but if you plan to attend, it would be helpful if you notified us in advance. Please email your name, age and which clinics you plan to attend to Glenn Wager.
Preseason Clinic – March 21st from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at Extra Innings in Longmont
Extra Innings is an indoor practice/training facility. Professional Instructors, Mike and Leta Newton (both former college players), and their staff have volunteered to run a comprehensive clinic to help players gear up for the season. The first 1 hour and 45 minutes will focus on fielding and hitting while the final 45 minutes will focus on pitching. In order to participate in the pitching portion of the clinic, players need to have someone come and catch for them. Players not interested in pitching do not need to stay for the final 45 minutes.
Pitching Clinic – April 6th from 5:45 to 7:00 PM at Monarch Field #1
Kaitlyn Gentert, a local pitching instructor, has once again volunteered to host a pitching clinic for all players interested in learning how to pitch or interested in improving their motion. Kaitlyn was Head Coach at Longmont High School last season and will be Assistant Coach at Erie High School next season. She pitched for Regis in college and does a great job teaching kids of all ages. Note that each player that attends the clinic needs to bring someone with them to catch (minors need to wear a mask to catch).
Fielding Clinic – April 12th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Monarch Fields #1 and #2
Niwot High School Head Coach Bobby Matthews has volunteered to organize a fielding clinic for NYS. Prior to taking over as the head coach for Niwot in 2011, Coach Matthews was head coach at Longmont High School. He and some of his players are going to work with our kids to improve our fielding.
Hitting Clinic – April 18th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Monarch Fields #1 and #2
Ryan Beavers, Head Coach at Silver Creek High School (for the past 5 years), has volunteered to provide a hitting clinic. Ryan played Division I baseball at Colorado State and, in addition to coaching Silver Creek, he also coaches competitive softball during the summer. He and some of his players are going to work with our players on proper swing mechanics.
