2019 Softball Camps and Clinics
As part of our commitment to help softball players improve their skills and compete with their peers, Niwot Youth Sports (NYS) has organized a number of free softball clinics. The clinics are open to all players, both new and experienced, and will be run by professional instructors and/or local high school coaches (and some of their players). You do not have to sign up to participate in the clinics, but if you know that you plan to attend, it would be very helpful if you notified us in advance and I would appreciate your doing so. Just email Glenn Wager with your name, age and which clinics you plan to attend. Here’s the current schedule:
Pitching Clinic – April 5th from 5:30 to 6:45 PM at Monarch Field #1 – Kaitlyn Gentert, a local pitching instructor, has once again volunteered to host a pitching clinic for all players interested in learning how to pitch or interested in improving their motion. Kaitlyn was Head Coach at Longmont High School and was also an Assistant Coach at Erie High School. She pitched for Regis in college and does a great job teaching kids of all ages. Note that each player that attends the clinic needs to bring someone with them to catch (minors need to wear a mask to catch).
Fielding/Hitting Clinic – April 9th from 5:15 to 7:45 PM at Monarch Fields – Ryan Beavers, Head Coach at Silver Creek High School (for the past 11 years), has volunteered to organize a comprehensive softball clinic on behalf of Niwot Youth Sports. Ryan played Division I baseball at Colorado State and, in addition to coaching Silver Creek, he coaches competitive softball during the summer. The plan is to have Ryan and coaches from other local high schools as well as some of their players work with our kids to improve both their offensive (hitting) and defensive (throwing and fielding) skills. In the past, head coaches Bobby Matthews from Niwot, Haley Walters from Longmont, Harold Simmons from Erie, and Dawn Gaffin from Legacy, amongst others have participated in the clinic. This year we are hoping to have coaches from even more schools as well as players from neighboring communities.
Niwot High School Softball Camp – Dates To Be Determined – Topics will include: Throwing mechanics, Basic to advanced defensive skills, Hitting and short-game fundamentals, Base running and Establishing a sound mental approach. Current and past NHS players will help run the clinic and you will also receive advice and tips from the NHS coaching staff. The cost of the camp is expected to be $60.
