Recreational Baseball

Niwot Youth Sports baseball leagues are divided between T-Ball/Coach Pitch leagues and Player Pitch divisions. The T-Ball/Coach Pitch divisions are for players ages 4 to 8 and include the Bubblegum, Rookie, and AA leagues. The Player Pitch divisions are for players ages 9 to 18 and include the AAA, Majors, Seniors, and High School divisions.  Each of these are explained in detail below.  Note:  Players are allowed to play up one level if they are within a year of being eligible for that level.  This means that an 8 year old can elect to sign up for AAA which is generally for 9-10 year olds, a 10 year old can elect to sign up for Majors which is generally for 11-12 year olds, and so on).  However, we reserve the right to move the player back down a level if we believe they are not ready to participate at the next level yet.

T-Ball and Coach Pitch Divisions – Bubblegum, Rookie, and AA

In the Bubblegum, Rookie, and AA divisions, NYS accepts requests to be with a friend and/or coach of your choice. The request must be made at the time of registration. Please note, the request is just that – a request. It does not guarantee placement with the coach or player requested.

The only equipment required for these leagues is a glove. We provide bats and balls as well as uniforms for the games, which consist of a hat and t-shirt. Other suggested equipment includes: baseball pants, cleats, a bat, or batting gloves (kids love these), but these are all optional.

Practices begin in early April. Practices are typically held at either 4:30 PM or 6:00 PM on weeknights once or twice a week until games begin. Once games begin, there will be fewer practices. Games will begin in early-May, and run through late June. All games begin at 5:30 or 6pm on weeknights and 10am on Saturdays.

NOTE: No Saturday games will be scheduled until soccer season is over.

 Bubblegum

This is strictly t-ball. Players will play 6 games on weekdays at 6 PM and/or Saturdays at 10 AM. All games will last 1 hour.

This is an introduction to the game. Players will learn to hit, throw, catch, and run the bases. Bring your camera; you won’t want to miss the fun that both you and the players will have.

Monarch Fields #5 and #6

$115

6 & younger 7 year olds (Typically Kindergarten & 1st Grade)

 Rookie

This division is a mix of coach pitch and t-ball. We begin to teach players how to hit a ball thrown from the coach. In the games players will get three tries to hit the pitch, if they are not successful they will then use the tee. There are no strikeouts.

In this division players will begin to learn the basic strategy and fundamentals of the game. There will be 8 games each lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Monarch Fields #5 and #6

7 & 8
year olds (Typically 1st & 2nd Grades)

AA

This division is all coach pitch. Tees will no longer be used. Players will learn basic rules such as you can strikeout, or that you can’t always run when a fly ball is hit. Players will learn to play different positions, what happens at each position, and where to throw the ball on each play.

There will be 10 games each lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Player Pitch Leagues – AAA, Majors, Seniors & High School Rec

In AAA and Majors divisions practices will begin in early-April. Practices are typically held at 4:30 PM and 6:00 PM on weeknights. The regular season games begin in early-May and run through the end of June or very beginning of July. Games begin at 5:30pm on weekdays and may occasionally he held on Saturdays.

Seniors will either play in an NYS in-house league or in the Longmont 13-14 Rec league. Game dates are TBD for 2023, but expect that they will start in May and end in July.

High School Rec for 15-18 year olds will be part of a league run though Fort Collins baseball. Games will mostly be in Longmont and Niwot, but some games may require travel to places like Loveland, Fort Collins or Greeley. Game dates are expected to occur between mid-May and mid-July.

NOTE: For NYS internal divisions, Saturday games will NOT be scheduled until soccer season is over.

 AAA

Teams are formed by draft. Requests to be with friends or coaches are normally not granted. Players will be evaluated before the draft and the results are given to the coaches who are able to draft players in a pre-determined order. Dates and times for the evaluation will be announced prior to registration. This is done to maintain a competitive balance.

Players will be given the opportunity to play a variety of positions as we move towards our goal of teaching the fundamentals of the game along with the real rules of baseball. Players do all the pitching and, beginning at this level, umpires call each game. There are 12 regular season games which are played on fields with 65′ bases. Each game will last 1 hour and 45 minutes.

11 & 12 as of April 30 (Typically 5th & 6th Grades)

 Majors

Teams in Majors are drafted the same way as AAA. Our goal is to make each team as equal in talent as possible. We sometimes ask younger players that may be ready for majors to move up to this level, if we are in need of extra players to fill the rosters. All players are required to go through the evaluation process, to help insure a balanced league.

The rules are the same as High School rules with a few exceptions to help keep a competitive balance. There are 12 regular season games played on 70′ bases lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes.

13 & 14 as of April 30 (Typically 7th Grade & Up)

Seniors

We are striving to run an in-house league with 4 teams, with games played at the Biff Warren Complex.  If fewer players are available, we will have ~ 2 teams enter into the Longmont league, with 12 regular season games, half at the Biff Warren complex (Hagen Field), the other half at fields in Longmont.

The rules are the same as High School baseball. Games are played on fields with 80′ bases and last approximately 2 hours. The number of games will be determined once the league is formed.

15-18 as of April 30, 2023 (Typically 9th-12th Grade)

High School

For the first time, we plan to have an NYS-based High School Rec team, allowing players aged 15 to 18 to continue playing baseball through NYS.   Games will be played through Fort Collins Baseball.  They should mostly be in Longmont and Niwot, but some games may require travel to places like Loveland, Fort Collins or Greeley.

The rules are the same as High School baseball. Games are played on fields with 90′ bases and last approximately 2 hours. The number of games will be determined once the league is formed.
